The original reason I was so excited to learn about this device is that my husband and I ultimately want to purchase a fifth wheel RV and travel around the country with our dogs. For those of us in climates where temperatures fluctuate rapidly, it is not unusual for us to experience temperatures in the 80s one day and snow a few days later. For example, my husband spent the last week doing yard work and mowing the grass to get ready for warm weather, and as I write this we have freezing rain and snow falling. As a result, most of us are not ready to think about using air conditioning, but we could easily be caught off guard by an unseasonably warm day with our dogs home alone. If you are like me, it is a constant source of worry that the dogs are too warm at home during these periods when we do not have the AC set to run consistently.
Since the RV Pet Safety Monitor sends alerts to your mobile phone and email, you can receive an alert every ten minutes letting you know if the temperature is at a safe level. If it goes below or above your selected range, you can return home, have a neighbor or pet sitter stop by and rectify the situation, or use your thermostat’s app if you have a thermostat like the Nest.
Hotels and Room Sensors
One of the reasons I like this device is that it is portable, so you simply take it with you wherever you want. Even if you do not live in your RV 100% of your life, you can still find some benefits from the device no matter where you are. Not only is it useful at home, but it can also be a great tool in hotels.
More and more hotels have sensors that turn down the heat or air conditioning when someone leaves the room. Your dog may not trigger the sensor and the room could become too warm with her in it. No matter where the device is, you will receive notifications as long as you are in the Verizon Network 4G coverage area. If you see the temperature going up, you can return to the room and make sure that the air conditioning turns back on and that your dog is safe.
