In this journey as a canine lifestyle blogger, I have met a lot of fellow business owners at various networking meetings and events, who have started unique companies based on their own passions and professional skills. Through networking and coffee outings, I have become friends with some very awesome fellow entrepreneurs, including author, artist, and… Continue reading Kids With a Heart for Dogs
Yesterday I was out for coffee with a new friend who I met through my favorite business networking group. Of course, as a dog lifestyle blogger and lifelong dog lover, I tend to bond with other dog lovers. During our conversation, my friend and I talked about her adult age son and his dog, who… Continue reading Pivoting and Adapting as a Dog Owner
The other day I read that January 14 is the day each year that most people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions. On that day, I also happened to see the first “I need to sell my puppy, he has too much energy for this family” post on the Next Door social media platform.… Continue reading The Imperfect Experience of Raising a Puppy
As a writer, there is not much worse than staring at a blank screen and not having any words making their magnificent journey from brain to fingers, which is how I describe the process that happens so easily when you are writing from the heart. In 2018, having a lack of inspiration and nothing to… Continue reading Magic Acts & True Stories: Taking Love, Laugh, Woof into 2019
Earlier this month my husband and I went out of town for several weeks to spend time with my family in Florida and to go to our beloved Disney World. This annual trek is so precious because it is our time to be together without anyone needing anything from us and we get to put… Continue reading Our Newest DogSitter
This morning I was enjoying my morning coffee and watching a show that I had recorded on the DVR off of the E! network. I saw an ad for the People's Choice Awards show that will be broadcast on Sunday, November 11, 2018, and thought to myself, "OOH! I have to set the DVR for that to see if April wins her category!"
As I sat down to write this blog, I realized that this gift of food and treats from Bentley's Pet Stuff was more than simply a financial gift. It was a way to nourish and fuel the dogs who do such a good job of loving their firefighter daddy in a pure, unselfish way in which their lack of words is a bonus instead of a detriment. Thank you, Bentley's Pet Stuff, for supporting your first responders and the dogs who love them.
I thought about that for awhile and realized that I've been participating in self care since that day in 1976 that I wrote about in my book, when I learned the beauty of having a dog as my best friend. It turns out that my dogs are my self care, and I bet that they fall into that category for so many of the readers of this blog and dog owners everywhere.
Earlier this month I wrote about my new Nimble Wireless RV Pet Safety Monitor that I was excited to try in our new camper...and then we sold the camper! I'm kinda sad because we spent so long looking for the camper, and it was so perfect for us, but we got an offer we couldn't… Continue reading My New RV Pet Safety Monitor Part 2: Setup and Testing
In my most recent blog, I wrote about my weekend adventures running a farmer's market booth for a pet treat company and all of the dogs I got to meet and treat with samples. What I failed to mention was that on the second day, I developed heat exhaustion, and it was terrifying. I had… Continue reading The Nimble Wireless RV Pet Safety Monitor in the Home
This past weekend I worked at a farmer's market booth for a local pet treat company whose college-aged employees were headed back to school. I jumped at the chance to do something so close to my heart in an environment that I am familiar with from doing so many local events for my blog, all while earning… Continue reading The Dogs of the Farmer’s Market
When I picked up little eight-week-old Jackson to bring him home, one of the things to which I agreed was that I would take him to obedience school. I happily agreed, partially because even though I had lived with dogs my entire life I had not had a puppy in fifteen years, and partially because… Continue reading Dog Trainers Make Me Happy!
Last year my husband and I spent most of the spring and summer shopping for a travel trailer style RV, which I blogged about in the post, Our Search for a Labrador Friendly Camping Trailer. A few weeks later we purchased a super cool model called the TrailManor that folds down like a big pop-up but… Continue reading My New RV Pet Safety Monitor
My husband and I celebrated our ninth wedding anniversary earlier this week, and I was thinking about the vows that we took on that day in 2009. Like most couples these days we wrote our own personal vows that we spoke to each other and exchanged rings to the traditional words, "in sickness and in… Continue reading Vows, Comfort and Familiarity
This article by Terri Lewin Gilbert provides an excellent explanation of why professional breeders who participate in conformation events are recommended for puppy buyers who are looking for purebred dogs as pets. But I Don't Need a Show Dog by Terri Lewin Gilbert
I have a confession to make, although it probably is not a very earth-shattering one. I am easily distracted by animal videos. Yep. They get me every time. It's why I sat and watched and waited for April the Giraffe to give birth last year. It's why I end up pulled into the antics of… Continue reading A Manatee, a Bird, and Faith in Humanity
We go through a lot of dog treats in our house. A lot. I may be well educated on how to create a happy, healthy lifestyle for your dog, but I've never said I wasn't a pushover. I mean, it's not like my dogs aren't well behaved and trained, so it's ok if they get a treat… Continue reading Homemade Sweet Potato Dog Treats
If you have decided that a purebred puppy is the right dog for you, there is still a considerable amount of research to be done to ensure that you find a responsible breeder who is breeding dogs for the right reasons and with a professional level of knowledge. Buying a purebred puppy from a breeder is more than… Continue reading Identifying and Choosing a Responsible Breeder
Seven years ago today I met one of the great loves of my life. I had already fallen in love with him through email and photos and stories of how special he was, and meeting him in real life for the first time just sealed the deal. His first kisses solidified in my heart that… Continue reading Jackson the Labrador’s 7 Year Gotchaversary
